The Santa Rosa Lacrosse Club is a Santa Rosa area club team made up of players in 6th through 12th grades from several schools and cities. During the 2008 season the club fielded varsity, JV and juniors teams. The varsity team, took 1st place in the North division of the league and ended up taking 3rd overall place in Nor Cal. The JV team had a winless season as they learned lacrosse and the juniors team managed to win 2 games with all new players.
For the 2009 season the league is going to age bracket teams in the pre-high school levels. The SRLC will surely field varsity and JV teams for boys and will look at U15 and U13 boys and possibly a girls team depending on interest.
The SRLC plays in the NCJLA which is the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association. The varsity team is in a division with Rancho Cotati, Ukiah, Mendocino, Casa Grande and Petaluma High.
Equipment and Uniforms
Purchasing equipment is the players' responsibility. Prices begin at $220 for a complete starter kit at T and B Sports which includes a helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, arm pads and a beginner stick. The high school team wears black pads and helmets. Team colors are Carolina blue, black and white.
Uniforms are loaned to the players. Extra orders are put in for sweatshirts and/or team jackets.
Lacrosse In Sonoma County
The future of lacrosse in Sonoma County is looking good and continues to grow. Petaluma lacrosse club, in it's fourth year, is the largest club in Sonoma County and now has club teams at Petaluma High School and Casa Grande. Both Cardinal Newman and Sonoma Academy have official school teams and are playing in the CIF leagues.
In addition, the Sonoma Indoor Lacrosse League will start it's 4th season in the fall of 2008. The Sonoma County Vinemen, a select team, travelled to Palm Dessert for the La Quinta LaxFest in January 07 and took 2nd place in their bracket. In January 06 the team took 3rd. The team played two games in the summer of 06 and will again play in summer 2007.
Santa Rosa has a growing lacrosse population. Sonoma Academy has a boys and girls team. Sonoma Country Day School fields a highly competitive junior high team and has started a 5th/6th grade team. Cardinal Newman is having a successful season and Ursuline High School is looking to start a girls team.
Lacrosse has been recognized by CIF as an official high school sport. Many of the teams have left the NCJLA to form CIF leagues. As more teams pop up in the area, we will be looking to work our way into the schools and form our own CIF division.
